Extreme 50 comes to Philly

docsis3modem.jpgI’m not into fast cars, or planes. Nope, they do nothing for me. I’ll tell you want really makes me happy: fast Internet downloads. If that makes me a geek (which I’m pretty sure it does) so be it, the Internet is a big part of my life and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

My obsession with speedy downloads (and uploads for that matter) has translated into a keen interest in DOCSIS 3.0, which we have mentioned on Comcast Voices before. DOCSIS 3.0, also called wideband by those in the know, is the technology that allows us to offer very fast speeds indeed.

At the moment we’ve rolled out DOCSIS 3.0 to nearly 25 million homes and businesses to date, which means lots of people have the opportunity to sign up for either Ultra 22 (up to 22 Mbps of downstream/up to 5 Mbps of upstream) or Extreme 50 (up to 50 Mbps of downstream speed/up to 10 Mbps of upstream speed).

Today we’re announcing some exciting news (especially for me, as I am a resident of downtown Philadelphia): we’ve completed the DOCSIS 3.0 launch for the entire City of Philadelphia and surrounding area, which includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties as well as southern New Jersey and northern Delaware.

If you aren’t a speed freak like me (I plan on upgrading to Extreme 50 as soon as humanly possible) don’t worry, thanks to the DOCSIS 3.0 roll out we’ve also doubled the speeds for the majority of our existing high-speed Internet customers at no cost.

I live in 19136. Mayfair section of NE Philly. You dont offer Doc 3 service in my ZIP as verified with both Frank Eliason and George Lunski. Neither of them can tell me when I can get it. Perhaps actually completing the upgrade before striking up the band would be a good idea. This is frustrating as people in my same Corp are getting a better CHSI connection for the same money. Cherry picking.

Berks county would be nice too. I know a lot of techy people living in Berks county, myself included who are eagerly awaiting system updates to our neglected area.

Do they also have eMTA's in DOCSIS 3.0? I would prefer not to have two modem's, but rather have one box that did the phone and D3 service (much like my current D2 / CDV service).

Thanks!
