U.S. Olympic Network launches in 2010

USAringscolor.jpgEvery couple of years the entire country becomes entranced by the drama, glory, and fun that is the Olympics. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to enjoy that level of sportsmanship, and relive some of the greatest moments, year round?

The US Olympic Network, formed in partnership between The United States Olympic Committee and Comcast, will do just that. Expected to launch in 2010, the US Olympic Network will feature live coverage of championship competitions and Olympic trial events (post 2012). Add to that news, commentary and interviews plus classic Olympic footage (the United States Olympic Committee has thousands of hours of classic Olympic footage in their archives).

USON content will also be available On Demand and on the Internet through a special USON platform with lots of news and event coverage.

I certainly appreciate your opinion, Mike. The thinking here, though, is that this network will allow people to get even more information about the Olympics and perhaps even discover some of the lesser covered sports (I, for one, enjoy watching curling so I am hoping to catch that On Demand).

Actually, no, it would not be great to relive the Olympics every day and every year. Just like Christmas every day sounds great at first, it would soon become boring and tedious. When the Olympics come once every four years when the world comes together it is special. If you have it everyday, it is no big deal.

Yet another organization (MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA) using cable/satellite companies for captive revenue.
