Comcast Mobile App Part 2.0 - Xfinity Voice, Video and Email Go Mobile

theguiderdvr.jpgLast year, we launched a free mobile app for the iPhone® and iPod touch® [App Store Link]. The reviews were good (check out Ars Technica and Gizmodo, for example) and we were pleased to see the app reach more than 100,000 downloads in less than a week. But customers asked us, when will I be able to remotely program my DVR from my smart phone?

With Comcast Mobile 2.0, now available on the Apple’s App Store SM, we’re delighted to announce that remote DVR (rDVR) capability has been added, along with some other new features (you should really check them out!). Comcast Mobile applications are part of our vision to extend the accessibility of our video, voice and data products by making them available anywhere and on any device. The app, along with our HighSpeed2go 4G/3G wireless data service, FancastXfinityTV.com and Secure Backup & Share, are three recent examples of how we have made our products and services accessible in ways that were not possible even just a few years ago.

The pace of innovation in our business is accelerating and Comcast remains committed to being on the leading edge of that change. Comcast Mobile 2.0 is part of that story and our customers now have access to one of the most comprehensive and robust “triple play” apps that is available in the industry. With rDVR, our customers will never miss their favorite show or movie, because they can program their DVR at any time, from anywhere (PC or smart phone). Granted, it will take us several months to fully roll-out remote DVR programming across the country, but the process is well underway. We’re working as fast as we can to bring these new features to you.

Comcast Mobile 2.0 really is a “one stop shop” to stay connected to our services and to each other. And we won’t stop here; we have additional enhancements that will continue to be introduced into the app in the coming months.

To learn more about the application, visit www.comcast.net/comcastmobileapp.

Android please? I'm not asking for a TV remote integrated into my Captivate (though I COULD do that if I had FiOS), but I'd at least like to be able to program my DVR, check listings, and other basics.

Why iphoney? There are far more Windows Mobile devices. This is just one more reason to use my PC for DVR and return your expensive box. Is it so much to ask that you build your features to work with the most popular standards? Or will this be like how your DVR has USB, firewire, and eSATA, yet the storage isn't expandable?

C'mon Comcast, seriously. The Adroid OS has a bigger customer base than Iphone. VZW Fios wins again, with thier ANDROID app.

I will gladly leave Comcast for FIOS if Comcast doesn't release an Android version. FIOS already has an Android app for their DVR. Given Comcast's horrible customer service, ridiculous pricing and frequent technical problems, I'm already leaning towards FIOS. If Comcast won't support my mobile device, that may be the last straw. Once FIOS comes to my area, I may ditch Comcast for good.

I said, sure, I understand that, except when i put my zipcode in, it, in fact, tells me that it is available. He couldn't explain this to me.

You guys are *REALLY* missing the boat if you don't release an Android version of this app. Android is quickly gaining ground in the smartphone OS war. Over a million Android devices have been sold by Verizon alone since Christmas...and FiOS has an Android app. I don't think you'd want to be one-up'd by that, would you?

I GOT an email telling me all about the wonderful new app. I downloaded it and it won't connect. I tried thru the web then. It asks for my zip code to check for availability. i get a giant CONGRATULATIONS it's available in your area message, then when i try to activate... sorry, can't activate. Please read the FAQ or call. So i call and the representative tries to tell me that it's not available in all areas. I said, sure, I understand that, except when i put my zipcode in, it, in fact, tells me that it is available. He couldn't explain this to me.

I'm having trouble getting MyDvr to sync up. I've used it before to set a recording, but the mobile part is not showing up. Any tips?

I realize that services are rolled out to different areas at different times but it would be a HUGE help if there was a web page or some simple way to find out if certain services are available in my area without having to call and get transfered around. I just spoke to some very nice and helpful people who didn't know the status of the rDVR service via the mobile app. I had to point them to this web page.

It would also be great to have a way to be notified when these services become available in my area. An email notification service, an RSS feed, a Twitter account, etc. Any of these are better than having to call someone.

Very much looking forward to trying this out when it's available. Thanks.

It's a bit lame that we have yet another iPhone app being added to the mix. Why isn't this a simple mobile web app that can support all mobile devices? iPhone, Blackberry, Android even windows mobile?

The DVR function isn't working for me in the new version of the Mobile App -- and I'm in Richmond, VA, where myDVR is already enabled at comcast.net.

Is there something I need to do to activate it?

Rob and Jay, I know that a Blackberry version will be coming out in the near future. I'm not sure about an Android version. Let me check with the developers.

The app is nice, but I wish the channel lineups were up to date. Comcast added new HD channels to my area a couple of weeks ago and they aren't incorporated into the lineup the app downloads. It at least has the ones from the channel additions of 6 weeks ago.
