Comcast, NBCU, and Asian American Leaders Join to Expand Media Diversity and Community Engagement
Today, we signed a landmark agreement with five of the nation's leading Asian American media and civil rights organizations that will help advance Comcast's mission to increase diversity in the areas of corporate governance; employment/workforce recruitment and retention; procurement; programming; and philanthropy and community investments. While our dedication to diversity is long-standing, the commitments announced today position us to better compete in an increasingly diverse business environment.
I'm particularly proud of our commitments to increase diversity in the area of programming. Those commitments recognize the growing influence in content creation and consumption in the Asian American community.
First, we are committed to significantly increase the distribution of Asian American programming channels in major markets serving Asian Americans. We are also making more Asian American content available on demand through our newly launched Cinema Asian America, featuring programming with Asian Americans behind and in front of the camera. This is not just about getting good films to our Asian American viewers; it's about offering good films that all Americans should have the chance to see. Finally, we're committed to developing new talent pipelines for Asian American-themed content for video-on-demand, online, television, and other media, and to help increase the availability of diverse and high quality content through new or expanded partnerships with the non-profit Center for Asian American Media in San Francisco and Visual Communications in Los Angeles.
We have made additional commitments to increasing development and placement opportunities for Asian Americans in executive management and corporate governance positions, and to deepen our community ties with partner organizations serving Asian American populations.
I am most proud of the fact that this agreement is the result of a strong partnership between Comcast and NBCU and Asian Americans leaders and organizations, all of whom are dedicated to advancing the mission of diversity, a business philosophy I really believe in. This partnership will move forward through a new Asian American Advisory Council that will give Comcast ongoing feedback and support on these initiatives.
These milestone commitments are good for the company and the community. We look forward to collaborating with the Asian American community to maximize these new opportunities.

Yes, this is such great news! Now, will Comcast come to my area so I can actually put this "on-demand" Asian American cinema to use? I can't afford to buy every Asian American film that comes out (although I'm glad there's more and more), so this is a GREAT idea. Will Comcast be donating a portion of their profits from the on-demand services to APIA nonprofits?
