Gene Morris

I love to write stories about people who do remarkable things. That’s the best way I can sum up my little corner of Comcast Voices. I’m based in Philadelphia and responsible for communicating about our Community Investment efforts.

So I may be writing about some great work by our national partners such as City Year or Big Brothers Big Sisters. Or I may focus on participants in a technology lab that we support, which is helping to transform a challenged neighborhood. In other words, I get to write about inspiring and often heartwarming activities taking place in communities around the country.

This is a new and exciting role for me. I was a sportswriter for many years and I’ve worked in corporate communications for a couple of large companies. I’ve learned a great deal about the philanthropic world since joining Comcast in March 2008, and I’m proud to say I can now distinguish between a 501(c)(3) and a 401(k).

Away from work you may find me at a Springsteen concert, a Phillies game or the beach. My definition of ultimate joy would be combining all three in one day, and topping it off with a pizza.

Thanks for stopping by. Please leave many comments.

One Economy: Technology cuts across all barriers

Nostalgia mixed with a sense of new beginning. That's the best way I can describe last night's 10th Annual One Economy Gala at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Chairman of the Board and co-founder Rey Ramsey spoke with passion...

Comcast Sponsors City Year's Opening Day

It's hard to imagine anyone not getting motivated by City Year's opening day. The ceremonies last Friday and early this week resembled a pep rally, as more than 1,700 corps members around the country officially kicked off their year of...

If sometime soon Noah Kodeck is asked, “So, how did you spend your summer vacation?” he’s going to have quite a story to tell. Noah will be in Haiti from June 14-30, helping local people rebuild their community after the...

Comcasters in action: filling an empty library

I admit to withholding this piece of information from my recent blog about the Beyond School Walls Reverse Day at Fairhill School in Philadelphia: the library had no books. Today it has more than 1,600 books, along with four high-end...

Their Sacrifice, Our History

Just a few feet away from me were dozens of family members of Philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty. What mixed emotions they must have felt as a beautiful multi-media memorial to their brave relatives was...

A celebration of H.O.M.E., and rock stars

Sure, Jon Bon Jovi was in the house, and I thought that was cool. But the biggest rock star of the night was a petite nun who refuses to accept that homelessness and poverty are inevitable. Her name is...

Remembering 9/11 through media

Faces told the story. Some faces frowned. Others had tears. All had a look that revealed something profound about what they had just seen. You must see the 9/11 Gallery at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. If you can’t...

Beyond School Walls: discussing the impact of the program
