Richard Woundy

I report up to the Chief Technology Officer of Comcast, so I often look at software and network applications that may be several years away from deployment. Most of my past projects operate behind the scenes at Comcast, although you might recognize one of my inventions: Powerboost.

I have been working on Internet and Internet-related technologies over the last twenty years. My first job out of college was with IBM, writing router software for the NSFNET backbone. Back in the early 90s, it was difficult to explain to friends and family what I was working on; I would explain that I was allowing “computers to talk to other computers”. The arrival of the world wide web and the Mosaic browser made it a lot easier to explain the Internet.

Later in my career, I helped write the DOCSIS cable modem specifications while at MediaOne, and developed software to help bring cable modems and other devices online while at Cisco. I have been at Comcast since 2002.

I live outside of Boston with my wife and three teenage children. I enjoy hiking with my sons in the mountains of New Hampshire, as well as spoiling my daughter when I’m back home.
