Stephen Balkam

Stephen Balkam is the founder and CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI), a leading international nonprofit organization dedicated to making the Internet safer for families. A prolific tweeter and regular blogger for Huffington Post, Stephen is a known leader in developing best practices and promoting proper rules, tools and education in schools to keep kids safe online.

FOSI convenes the top thinkers and practitioners in government, industry and the nonprofit sectors to collaborate, innovate and create a Culture of Responsibility in the online world. Right now, with broadband access expanding into more and more homes, FOSI has developed a Broadband Responsibility Blueprint that helps stakeholders learn how to implement solid online safety plans as these homes are connected.

FOSI has over 25 members, including Comcast, Facebook, Google, AOL, AT&T and Verizon and hosts international conferences and an annual conference in Washington, D.C every year that bring together Internet safety experts from around the world to determine how to best protect kids online.

Stephen has appeared on nationally syndicated TV and radio programs such as MSNBC, CNN, NPR and the BBC and has been quoted by the Associated Press and in leading newspapers such as the Washington Post and New York Times.
